Viking has taken delivery of two new river ships, Viking Honir and Viking Thoth, further strengthening its leadership in the river cruise sector in Europe and Egypt.
The delivery ceremonies took place in Basel, Switzerland, for Viking Honir and at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt, for Viking Thoth.
The Viking Honir will operate on Europe’s Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, while Viking Thoth will join the company’s growing Nile fleet in Egypt. Both vessels reflect Viking’s focus on combining Scandinavian design with innovative engineering to enhance comfort and destination immersion.
“We are proud to welcome Viking Honir and Viking Thoth to our growing river fleet,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “With the arrival of these elegant new ships, we are pleased to offer even more curious travellers the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most iconic waterways in Viking comfort.”
Viking Thoth
Viking Honir is the latest member of Viking’s Longship series and accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms. Designed specifically for the Rhine, Main, and Danube, it features a distinctive square bow, three full decks, an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, an asymmetric corridor design, and true two-room suites.
Guest amenities include a sun deck with 360-degree views, a walking track, putting green, herb garden, and solar panels that contribute to improved energy efficiency. Onboard spaces include a panoramic restaurant, a lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass doors, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout. The ship will sail itineraries such as Passage to Eastern Europe, Rhine Getaway, and Christmas on the Rhine.
The Viking Thoth is purpose-built for the Nile River and carries 82 guests in 41 staterooms. It is an identical sister ship to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor and Viking Amun, forming the most modern fleet currently operating on the Nile.

The ship offers 12 Standard Staterooms, 21 Veranda Staterooms, six Veranda Suites and two Explorer Suites. The latter include two full-size rooms, a private veranda, and bathrooms with separate tub and glass-enclosed shower.
Public areas aboard Viking Thoth include a pool and sun deck with panoramic views and shaded seating, a restaurant, and a lounge reflecting Viking’s minimalist Scandinavian style.
The ship will operate on the Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, which begins with a stay in Cairo before an eight-day roundtrip cruise from Luxor. Guests visit sites such as the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings, the temples of Karnak and Luxor, and the temple of Hathor at Dendera.
Viking’s expansion continues as part of its long-term strategy for measured growth in river, ocean and expedition cruising. The company expects to take delivery of 23 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 more ocean ships by 2031, bringing its total fleet to more than 130 vessels worldwide.
