Top 10 Most And Least Expensive Destinations In 2023

21/04/2023

Last Updated 1 second agoWhat are the most (and least) affordable destinations this year?

These are the destinations around the world where your money will go the furthest… and the destinations that will cost you the most!

According to a study, these are the average costs of a 5-day trip to a destination, excluding flights but including hotels, food, attractions, and transportation.

Most Expensive Destinations

Which destinations around the world are the most expensive? The following destinations will set you back the most for a 5-day vacation:

1. Monaco: $2,258

Monaco is the most expensive place to visit this year, with the average cost of a 5-day vacation coming in at a whopping $2,258.

This tiny country is famous for being a playground of the rich and famous, with high-end casinos, restaurants, bars, and designer stores.

Fortunately, this European micro-nation is very small and can actually be visited on a day trip from a more affordable destination like Marseille, France.

2. St. Barts: $2,181

St. Barts is known for being one of the most expensive Caribbean islands, filled with luxurious resorts and exclusive beach clubs.

A 5-day vacation on this island will cost you around $2,181.

If you’re looking for a Caribbean escape for less money, there are quite a few more affordable Caribbean islands to choose from.

3. Gstaad, Switzerland: $2,065

Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in the world, so it’s no surprise that the exclusive ski town of Gstaad is one of the priciest destinations in the world.

A 5-day luxury ski holiday will set you back at least $2,065.

Luckily, there are other affordable ski destinations in Europe.

4. Reykjavik, Iceland: $1,919

Reykjavik, Iceland is another expensive destination. Iceland’s capital city is known for being one of the priciest cities in Europe, and the rest of the country is similarly expensive.

Seeing Iceland’s natural beauty like waterfalls, geysers, and the Northern Lights doesn’t come cheap. A 5-day trip here will cost you about $1,919.

5. Bora Bora: $1,918

Bora Bora is an island in French Polynesia that has long been known as a romantic and luxurious destination.

There’s no tropical paradise on Earth quite like it, but this paradise will cost you: the average price for a 5-day trip is around $1,918.

Least Expensive Destinations

1. Delhi, India: $181

When it comes to the least expensive destinations around the world, Delhi, India leads the pack with a 5-day trip costing just $181 including hotels, food, attractions, and transportation.

If you don’t mind the chaotic hustle and bustle you’re sure to find in the city, Delhi can be an amazing destination for food and culture.

2. Phnom Penh, Cambodia: $224

Another one of the least expensive destinations in the world is Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This Southeast Asian capital city is very affordable, along with the rest of the country.

You can explore the diverse beauty of Cambodia for around $224 for a 5-day trip.

3. Kathmandu, Nepal: $229

The average cost of a 5-day trip to Kathmandu, Nepal is $229, making this another one of the least expensive destinations in the world.

While certain outdoor activities in Nepal will cost you a lot more (like trekking to Everest Base Camp or completing another one of the popular treks in this mountainous nation), the overall costs of traveling in Kathmandu are low.

4. Tbilisi, Georgia: $249

Tbilisi, Georgia is an underrated capital city in the Caucasus region straddling Europe and Asia. A 5-day trip to this vibrant city will only set you back about $249.

Known for its delicious food and wine, charming architecture, and history and culture, this is a great city that you can visit on a budget.

5. Medellin, Colombia: $255

Finally, one of the least expensive destinations in the world is Medellin, Colombia. Known as the City of Eternal Spring thanks to its temperate climate, Medellin has been exploding in popularity lately.

Yet this city, popular with expats and digital nomads, remains one of the most affordable in Latin America.
