Planning a cruise with your parents or grown-up children? You’re in good company. A new survey by Marella shows 57 per cent of British travellers would go on a multi-gen cruise. It’s perhaps unsurprising when you consider the clear practical advantages of sailing with two or more generations. Cruising with a line like Marella, which offers an all-inclusive experience, can work out as better value compared with land holidays. With transport, accommodation, dining and excursions arranged, it can also be far less of a logistical hassle. And once on board, there’s something to suit a wide range of ages, from kids’ clubs offering complimentary childcare to cocktail bars and West End-style shows for adults. The biggest draw, however, according to 32 per cent of respondents, is the chance to spend quality time as a family. The sentiment was echoed by mother-and-daughter TV personalities Jess and Carol Wright, who travelled with their husbands and Jess’s young son Presley.Jess said, “Spending real, quality time with my husband, both my parents and Presley has honestly been amazing. Life gets so busy, so having the chance to come together as a full family – whether we were relaxing onboard Marella Voyager or heading out to explore – has been such a gift.”As well as highlighting why people choose multi-gen cruises, the survey showed who is driving the trend. Gen Z travellers are firmly at the forefront, followed by Millennials, Baby Boomers and Gen X.Further booking data showed the where, as well as the who and the why. Birmingham is the top city in the UK for multi-gen and group bookings, followed by Cardiff, Sheffield, Newcastle and Nottingham.
