This Is The Number One Destination For Americans On The Pacific Coast Of Mexico

Not necessarily. Located on the opposite side of the country, at the very southern tip of the Baja California Sur state, Los Cabos easily lays claim to that title.

Well-known for its laid-back atmosphere, wellness-centered tourism, and unspoiled nature, it’s no wonder it’s the top destination for Americans on the Pacific Coast of Mexico:

This year alone, 4,015,900 U.S. citizens landed here instead of Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and other Pacific hubs. That’s already a 2% bump over the same period in 2025, and a much more significant 16.3% increase over 2022.

In other words, Americans have increasingly grown fond of Los Cabos, and if you’ve been wondering why so many of your friends and acquaintances are heading there, this is why:

World-Class Resorts

Cabo’s main appeal is, without question, its plethora of luxurious, award-winning resorts, ranked among some of the best not only in Mexico, but the entire world.

The overnight rate here back in 2023 was already a whopping $600, and prices haven’t actually gone down since, but then again, it’s not like tourists think twice about splurging all that money when they know they’ll be embarking on the vacation of a lifetime.

If you’re craving the royal treatment, look no further than the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: backed by the scenic Pedregal Mountain and overlooking a scenic beach, this Hilton listing has 113 unique rooms and suites, each equipped with a private plunge pool.

Other flagship Cabo hotels include Esperanza, distinguished for its infinity hot tubs and for being the only true private-beach property in Cabo, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, with butler service and Bulgari bath amenities, and Thompson’s The Cape, boasting a swim-up bar and chef-curated menu.

Find out more about them on our sister website The Cabo Sun.

Exciting New Openings

Long-time faves aside, the exciting thing about Cabo’s hotel-dominated beachfront is that its skyline keeps changing. To be more exact, there’s always a beautiful new resort bowing to keep things fresh, and right now it’s no different.

From fall 2025, you’ll be able to book a stay at the Park Hyatt Los Cabos (at Cabo del Sol), with 197 uniquely designed rooms, some with private plunge basins, 5 restaurants on-site, and most importantly, a 59,000 sq ft spa facing the shimmering Sea of Cortez.

Later in 2025, we’ll also be getting a new Soho House right in the heart of Cabo del Sol. Described as London-meets-Baja, it’s the epitome of laid-back chic.

At the same time, there’s a majestic Amanvari-signed, 20-pavilion complex launching.

We know 2026 is still a way to go, but we should also mention the new St. Regis at Quivira, expected to launch sometime next year: picture modern private villas, a personal butler service, and a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.

Los Cabos Is Very Safe For Americans

Safety is still a primary concern for Americans flying abroad these days, and let’s face it, it is a confusing world to navigate. There seems to be brewing tensions everywhere, and Mexico is no exception, with the rampant gang activity in certain parts and rising crime levels.

Fortunately for Cabo-bound tourists, it is one of the safest destinations south of the border, as you can see for yourself on our Travel Advisory Checker (TAC).

With data gauged from reliable sources, such as the Department of State and on-the-ground experts, the TAC tells us Americans should ‘exercise increased caution’ when visiting Cabo, as well as the wider state of Baja California Sur.

This may sound alarming, but in fact, it’s essentially the standard safety advice worldwide: it’s the same information you’ll get looking for travel advice for France, Spain, Italy, and a wide range of developed countries traditionally perceived as ‘safe’.

It means that, while out on the streets or on a public beach, you should refrain from flashing valuables and beware of your surroundings. Within the limits of a resort, however, you’re as safe as can be.

Flying There Is Cheap

Last but most definitely not least, Los Cabos is an extremely convenient destination for Americans flight-wise.

Flights are offered from as many as 20 U.S. hubs, from major international airports to smaller airports, and round-trip fares are usually quite affordable.

That’s not to say Cabo itself is a budget destination, far from that, but you can still fly there from as cheap as $325 return, with several different airlines, as per KAYAK estimates.
