With millions of visitors flocking to this dreamy region each year, many choose to stick to the more well-known destinations like the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.
While a few heavy hitters get most of the attention, there are plenty of other places just waiting to be explored. But there is one problem with some smaller, lesser-visited islands – they can be difficult to get to.
Case in point – the idyllic island of Dominica. Priding itself as the Nature Island, Dominica is located in the Eastern Caribbean south of Guadeloupe and north of Martinique and is full of surprises waiting to be discovered by visitors.
One reason why the island of Dominica is not as touristed as other Caribbean islands is that it is more difficult to get to.
In contrast to islands like Puerto Rico and The Bahamas which are well-serviced by air, Dominica has historically had fewer options for tourists to get there.
But with more and more tourists discovering its unique charm, airlines are beginning to increase service to Dominica, making getting there easier than it has been in the past.
Increased Flights To The Nature Island
With more demand for flights to Dominica, airlines are increasing service. While most passengers will still need to make a connection through airports, including Miami, San Juan, or Trinidad, options are increasing, meaning the island is more accessible than ever.

Air Antilles Flights
Air Antilles has just added several inter-Caribbean connections. Visitors can now fly to Dominica from St. Lucia (SLU), Guadeloupe (PTP).
Daytime connections through these two destinations make same-day onward travel to Europe possible, as well as connections to other destinations in the Caribbean and North America.
American Airlines Flights
American Airlines passengers can fly from Miami (MIA) to Dominica (DOM) each Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday until May 31, 2023.
Beginning on June 1, 2023, American Airlines will add an additional flight increasing service to 4x weekly. Between June 1 and August 14, flights will operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Caribbean Airlines Flights
Earlier this month, Caribbean Airlines expanded its service to Dominica. They currently operate flights to and from Trinidad (POS) and Barbados (BGI) twice weekly and are adding a new flight.
With the addition of Friday flights to Trinidad, passengers now have more options to connect to North America and Europe via onward service from Trinidad to JFK, Toronto, and Amsterdam.
interCaribbean Airlines Flights
Daily flights on interCaribbean Airlines have allowed for more connections to Dominica from other Caribbean islands.
Passengers have options to fly from Barbados and St. Lucia via 17 various flights each week.
Silver Airways Flights
Silver Airways is increasing passenger capacity from 34 to 48 seats. The airline, which is a codeshare partner with American Airlines, JetBlue, United, and Delta, flies to Dominica from San Juan (SJU) four times each week.
From May 15 – July 5 the airline will add an additional day of service to the island from San Juan.
The addition of the new flight will mean passengers can connect inbound through SJU every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and outbound every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Dominica has long been a nature lover’s secret paradise. Because of its small size and lack of airline connections, the island has been able to avoid over-tourism.
But more and more visitors are discovering this beautiful island, and the secret is out. Recently, Dominica was recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the World’s Greatest Places, and the tiny island was also ranked as one of the top travel destinations where visitors can unwind in 2023 by Lonely Planet.
Visitors love the island’s 365 rivers, a multitude of waterfalls, lush rainforests, and great snorkeling and dive sites.
