These Are The Cheapest European Destinations To Fly To This Summer

18/04/2023

Last Updated 1 hour agoAre you planning to travel to Europe summer? These destinations have the cheapest airfare on flights from the United States.

According to data from AAA, international travel is up 200% in 2023, and international airfare has skyrocketed over 30% compared to last year.

Europe is expected to have one of its busiest summers on record when it comes to tourism, and prices are already sky-high.

But the budget travel website Thrifty Traveler has compiled the following list of the cheapest European destinations to fly into this summer to save on airfare from the United States. These destinations offer round-trip airfare as low as $400 to $600.

Since airfare on flights within Europe tends to be cheap, you can fly to one of these destinations first and then hop on a budget airline flight to your final destination and potentially save hundreds of dollars.

These are the cheapest destinations in Europe to fly to this summer:

1. Ireland

Dublin has some of the best flight deals from the United States, with dozens of U.S. cities regularly having flights for $400 to $600 round-trip to Dublin.

Aer Lingus, Ireland’s flagship carrier, and several U.S. airlines offer flights to the Emerald Isle that won’t put a huge dent in your bank account.

You can explore Ireland for a few days before booking a flight on a European budget airline to your final destination. Most cities in Europe are easily reachable within a few hours from Dublin.

2. Scandinavia

Although Scandinavia is known for being the priciest region in Europe, you can actually find some of the cheapest flights from the U.S. to these countries for $500 to $600 round-trip.

Take a look at flights to the capital cities of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland from the U.S. to see what deals are available.

Typically, the cheapest flights can be found during late spring and early fall, while the peak summer season sees higher prices.

3. Spain

Spain is one of the best destinations in Europe to find cheap flight deals.

Spain’s location on the Iberian Peninsula in Western Europe means that you’ll find more affordable flights from the United States than you would to destinations further east in Europe.

But Spain is a great jumping-off point for taking budget flights to other destinations in Europe, with extremely affordable flights to places like France, Italy, and Greece.

Not to mention, Spain is a fantastic summer destination itself. For the best deals of $400 to $500, look for flights in late August and early September.

4. Portugal

Also located on the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal is known for having cheap flights from the U.S. on TAP Air Portugal, the country’s flagship carrier, as well as several U.S. airlines. You can find flights as low as $400 to $500 to Lisbon, Portugal.

Like Spain, Portugal makes an excellent launchpad for reaching other destinations in Europe with plenty of budget flight options available.

It’s also a great place to visit this summer thanks to its beautiful beaches, vibrant cities, and affordable prices that are much lower than the rest of Western Europe.

5. Iceland

Finally, Iceland is one of the best destinations in Europe for finding cheap flights from the United States. You can find flights to Reykjavik for $400 to $600 on Icelandair and other airlines.

Icelandair in particular offers good deals on stopover fares that allow you to spend a couple of days in Iceland before continuing onward to another European destination.

Fares are most expensive during the summer, but you can find the best deals in the shoulder season of late spring and early fall.
