The 10 European Cities That Are Trending With American Travelers This Summer

Summer is projected to be the busiest time of year for international travel, and most Americans are planning on European cities as their destinations. 

According to the  Airlines Reporting Corporation – which provides the most comprehensive air transaction data and reporting available – certain European cities have seen the biggest increase in bookings from U.S. travelers for this summer.

Based on travel between Memorial Day to Labor Day, here are the European cities that are seeing the biggest increase in bookings from U.S.-based travelers right now:

Rome, Italy – 82% increase from last year 

Some come here for the culture, some for the food, and others for the many varied reasons that people love to visit this Italian city.

Italy is projected to be very busy with tourists this summer, and travelers should be aware that there are an increasing number of rules and restrictions to follow nowadays, so make sure to stay current with these to avoid any issues. 

London, UK –  63% increase from last year

As one of the top searched-for destinations this summer, it should not come as a surprise to see London on this list of trending cities for American travelers.

Those from the U.S. have always loved to visit London, and this year is no exception. Just make sure you are aware of things you need to know before arriving and exploring this fantastic capital city.

Paris, France –  66% increase from last year

It should never come as a shock to see Paris on a list such as this, as the city is one of the most famous destinations in the world.

Another European culture-packed city that is proving popular with American travelers this year is Barcelona.

With amazing food, history, colorful architecture, and even good nearby beaches to check out, there is something for everyone in this exciting destination. 

Istanbul, Turkey – 183% increase from last year

Turkey is gearing up for a busy summer season, and travelers from all over are looking to head to this stunning country.

American travelers are booking trips to Istanbul in record numbers right now, and it’s easy to see why.

Shopping, sites, and every other reason you would wish for can be found in this magical city. 

Dublin, Ireland – 10% increase from last year

As one of the places in Europe with great flight deals from the U.S., Ireland is trending this year with American travelers.

Many are coming to finally take that bucket list trip that they have put off for a few years, and some are coming because they have heard how safe and beautiful it is.

And yes, perhaps some are coming to drink a pint and live it up in the many pubs and clubs that Dublin is known for. 

Amsterdam, Netherlands – 130% increase from last year 

While this destination might be somewhat famous for partying, it’s trying very hard to clean up its image.

Amsterdam is attempting to rebrand itself as a more family-friendly, calmer place to visit, and American travelers are looking to come and see what this charming city has to offer. 

Madrid, Spain – 70% increase from last year

With more and more train options in super-popular Spain, traveling throughout this country is becoming increasingly easier for international visitors.

Madrid remains a popular choice for American travelers this year, and those who come can enjoy tapas along street side cafes and enjoy one of the trendiest cities in Europe. 

Keflavik, Iceland –  74% increase from last year

One more country that is trending with American travelers this summer is Iceland, which allows a convenient stopover on a transatlantic journey between Europe and the U.S.

As an ideal summer destination, Iceland offers loads of things to do and see, and for those who are looking for some serious nature, this is the perfect time of year for it.
