The cruise season in the port of Ancona starts with number 51. These are the calls scheduled so far for the 2023 season, including 30 calls by MSC Armonia, that has opened the cruise parade of the Doric port on Friday 14th April, mooring again at Quay 15, close to the old town of Ancona.
The other 21 calls of the cruise season will be operated by six shipping companies, some of them specialized in luxury cruises: Azamara Club Cruises, CroisiEurope, Marella Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Ponant and Regent Seven Seas. These companies have included the port of Ancona in their itineraries across the Adriatic Sea, to discover the natural and cultural beauties in Ancona and Marche region, such as the Conero Riviera, the Frasassi Caves, Senigallia and Urbino.
In 2022, the port of Ancona welcomed 73.026 cruise passengers, registering an increase by 98% compared to the previous year. With 51 calls currently scheduled for 2023, this season is expected to be a great recovery, as also confirmed by the recent Seatrade Cruise Global world fair in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where the Central Adriatic Ports Authority participated to present and promote the opportunities offered by the cruise ports of Marche, Ancona and Pesaro, and Abruzzo, Ortona.
“This new cruise season is a significant sign that Ancona and Marche Region are relevant destinations for the cruise sector“- says Vincenzo Garofalo, President of the Central Adriatic Ports Authority. “Thus, we keep working to improve the port infrastructure to attract even more opportunities. A commitment- underlines Garofalo, that we share every day with the maritime cluster and with the Institutions involved, to confirm the role of Ancona as a strategic port for the Adriatic- Ionian Region”.
