There’s no place quite like the Caribbean, and there’s no better time to visit than in the depths of winter.
So which island should you choose?
Bonaire has always flown under the radar compared to some of the Caribbean’s more popular hot spots.
But it’s a fascinating and beautiful vacation destination, and now it’s easier to access than ever!
JetBlue has launched new nonstop flights to Bonaire. Here’s what you need to know.
JetBlue Flights To Bonaire
From November, JetBlue will fly from New York to Bonaire twice a week.
This route will fly on Saturdays and Tuesdays, so you can enjoy a week in the sun or just flit off for a long weekend!
So the all-important question is how much will it cost!?
JetBlue has a reputation for being a low-cost carrier, and this certainly seems to hold true for this flight route.
I looked at example flights from December 3 to December 10 to get an idea of how much this new flights will be.
The outbound flight departs at 7 am and lands at 12.38 pm with a 4 hour 38 minute flight time. The return flight departs at 2.10 pm and lands at 5.56 pm meaning it has a 4 hour 46 minute flight time.
In total, you can expect to pay $285 for a round-trip.
It’s important to note this price is based on a Blue Basic fare – this means you’ll get a free carry on bag (space permitting) but will be in the last boarding group and will have to pay an additional fee to select your own seats.
So if you want a window seat or to take hold of luggage, this price will go up.
Why Visit Bonaire?
Bonaire is the B in the ABC Islands. The other Islands in this group are Aruba and Curacao.
Aruba is the most popular tourist destination amongst these islands ,and Curacao is the biggest of the 3 islands.
But with the addition of new flight routes, it’s time for Bonaire to have its day in the sun.
That doesn’t mean that Bonaire isn’t already a popular tourist destination, it just doesn’t attract the same numbers as other similar islands.
So why should Bonaire be your tropical island pick?
One of the main reasons to visit Bonaire is for its epic snorkelling and scuba diving scene. In fact a huge amount of the activities available here are focused on the water.
SeaCow Snorkeling Bonaire is one of the best-rated snorkeling excursion providers on the island, and you can take a 3.5-hour guided snorkel trip (including snacks and rum punch refreshments) for $75 per person.
If you want to stay on dry land then head to Kralendijk, which is the capital of the island.
Kralendijk is known for its beautiful architecture, with candy colored buildings dotted along the waterfront.
Kaya Grandi is the main shopping street here and has a fun, bustling atmosphere. You’ll also find the Bonaire Museum nearby, which is a great place to uncover more about the island, and displays a host of fascinating archeological finds.
Before The Land In Bonaire
As well as packing your swimmers and your sunscreen, there’s one other thing you need to remember when you visit Bonaire.
You’ll need to pay your visitor entry tax!
This is a flat rate fee that means all visitors to Bonaire have to pay a $75 entry tax per person and per visit.
You can pay this when you arrive, but many people opt to pre-pay their entry tax before they land on the island.
