EPCOT Is About To Change Forever With Major Renovations

19/04/2023

Last Updated 1 second agoIf you’ve ever been to Disney World, you’ve probably been to EPCOT.

The theme park is a favorite for many travelers due to the different country pavilions and events like the yearly EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

Walt Disney envisioned the park as an example of the future — a progressive city that would showcase where humanity would be in the next millennia.

When Walt Disney passed away in 1966, the direction of the unopened park changed. Disney wanted to showcase the future (similar to Walt’s initial idea), and others wanted to showcase different cultures and customs.

Eventually, the two concepts were combined, creating what we have now. The park opened in 1982 and has since been an iconic park next to Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

EPCOT is about to change, and new plans will drastically alter the attraction we’ve grown to know and love.

Find out how EPCOT is about to change forever with significant renovations:

The Layout

EPCOT currently has two different neighborhoods: World Showcase and Future World.

Pretty soon, Future World is going adios while they introduce three new communities and maintain World Showcase the same.

The new layout will be World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and finally, World Showcase (the one filled with the different country pavilions).

According to Imagineers, the park will shift into various sections to house new attractions like Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.

This allows EPCOT to go back to its original directive in a way that works with the park in modern times. The new sections will be represented by different colors, each with a different theme.

The New Neighborhoods

World Celebration is what you’ll first encounter entering the park, and the color blue represents it.

A new CommuniCore Plaza will be built there, allowing for activities like outdoor festivals or pop-ups.

You’ll also find a character meet & greet in this area.

World Nature will be green and represent the earth. This is where you’ll find attractions like Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, which consist of two different pavilions (land and sea).

This new neighborhood will focus on how humans and the earth are connected and what that looks like within the next few decades.

World Discovery will be action-packed. You’ll find attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track here.

It’ll be represented by red and be all about innovation and ingenuity. This is where you go for high-speed rides.

Lastly, the World Showcase (represented by an orange) will largely stay the same. This is probably because it’s a guest favorite and houses some of the park’s coolest festivals.

What Else Is Changing?

Since the neighborhoods are changing, the front of the park is also getting a new facelift. Much of its brutalist architecture is being replaced by World Celebration.

Instead of giant gray cement structures, you’ll see LED lights and gardens optimal for events, musical or otherwise.

The concept of the park is going to change eventually. It’s been said that the park is constantly evolving, and we’re bound to see changes every so often. This keeps us on our toes and makes EPCOT the park we will always enjoy.

If you’re traveling to Orlando, Florida, this summer, stop by Disney World. Visiting theme parks like EPCOT will add some Disney magic to your vacation.

The park is changing soon, so visiting now might be your last opportunity to say goodbye to Future World and the brutalist architecture.

While the layout and neighborhoods may change, EPCOT will always be a favorite among locals and travelers for being the park that represents diversity, culture, and the future.

These massive renovations will forever change how we see EPCOT, but we’re sure it’ll be done quickly and with some Disney magic.
