At a ceremony in Sardinia on October 22, Copenhagen was announced as Europe’s Leading Cruise Port 2025 by the World Travel Awards.
The award, based on votes from qualified individuals within travel and tourism as well as consumers, is a testament to Copenhagen as an amazing all-year destination and regional cruise hub, with excellent cruise facilities and logistics.
Furthermore, the prize reflects world-class cross-sectoral collaboration within the tourism sector and cruise value chain in Copenhagen, Denmark and the region at large. Finally, Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) fosters strategic long-term collaboration with a diverse range of cruise lines.
The award was accepted in Sardinia, Italy, by Luis de Carvalho, Commercial Cruise Director and Birgitte Krabbe, COO, both from CMP.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition once again. Winning this award two years in a row is a powerful testament to the dedication of our CMP team and partners in delivering world-class experiences to cruise guests visiting our port. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible colleagues at CMP, our partners at Cruise Denmark – Copenhagen and beyond, our local collaborators and providers in Copenhagen, and most importantly, our loyal cruise lines and passengers. Your continued trust and support inspire us to keep improving, innovating, and growing,” says Luis de Carvalho, Commercial Cruise Director, Copenhagen Malmö Port.
The award comes on top of the Seatrade Cruise Award for Port of the Year 2025, which CMP won last month. Furthermore, CMP and Copenhagen are nominated as the World’s Leading Cruise Port by the World Travel Awards, where voting is open until October 26.
In 2024, CMP received close to 1 million cruise guests across Malmö, Visby and Copenhagen. The Danish capital welcomed more than 818.000 cruise guests and 280 cruise calls. Notably, 106 of the calls in Copenhagen were turnarounds (where guests embark and disembark the ship), and 26 ships chose to spend at least one night in the Danish capital.
The expectation for 2025 is more than 850.000 guests and around 300 cruise calls in Copenhagen. CMP partners with Cruise Denmark – Copenhagen and Beyond, Visit Copenhagen, and nearly 60 stakeholders to deliver seamless, enriching guest experiences.
World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Copenhagen previously won the award as Europe’s Leading Cruise Port in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2024, and 2025.
