Wine-themed river cruises have long been on the agenda. Particularly on European rivers like the Douro and Moselle, you’ll find plenty of bespoke itineraries designed around viticulture. In contrast, cruise operators don’t always give beer its due. Cruises dedicated specially to beer do exist, but there are far fewer of them, and on regular itineraries, brewery visits may play second fiddle to vineyard tours.Riverside Luxury Cruises has taken note of the underserved market and announced Hops & Heritage: Cruising through Centuries of Brewing Craftsmanship, a themed cruise curated and led by beer sommelier James Kellow. The eight-day voyage aboard Riverside Debussy will raise a stein to the brewing heritage of France, Germany and the Netherlands. As well as looking back at medieval traditions, guests will gain an insight into today’s craft beer scene and the trends shaping its future.Along the route, they will sip crisp German pilsner, the golden-hued Kölsch of Cologne and the complex flavours of Grolsch in Arnhem. Amsterdam, which has been brewing its own form of “liquid bread” for 750 years, promises to be a particular highlight. To ensure cruisers get the most from each port stop, Kellow will take guests on excursions to breweries and pubs, complemented by onboard beer tastings and daily recommendations to accompany the à la carte menu in the Waterside restaurant. The cruise departs on the 29th of July and disembarks on the 5th of August 2026, with fares starting from £3,094 at the time of writing.
