67th MedCruise General Assembly 2025 in Šibenik: Networking, Governance & Innovation at the heart of the Agenda

01/10/2025

The official programme of the 67th MedCruise General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Šibenik from 30 September to 3 October 2025, was formally presented today (September 30, 2025) during a press conference hosted in the Croatian port, member of the association.
The 67th MedCruise General Assembly officially opened today in the historic city of Šibenik, Croatia.
Hosted and co-organised by the Šibenik Port Authority, the Assembly runs from 30th September to 3rd October 2025 and has already set the stage for four days of dialogue, cooperation and forward-looking discussions shaping the future of the cruise industry.

The opening press conference, held at the City Hall of Šibenik, underlined the event’s ambition to reinforce MedCruise’s role as the leading platform for cooperation among Mediterranean cruise ports and their global partners. Speakers emphasised the importance of addressing today’s most pressing challenges while embracing opportunities for innovation and sustainable growth.
Port of Šibenik Authority General Manager Paško Dželalija underlined the importance of responsible growth, noting: “So cruise yes, but in a way that suits the local community. That is generally the topic of this association and that is what we will be discussing and trying to improve here for days. As for Šibenik and Croatia, we have positioned ourselves where we belong, as a strong force in the Mediterranean and I am extremely proud and it is a great honour for me that Šibenik is the host of this, on behalf of all Croatian ports and I hope that we will present them to Croatia and Šibenik as we are – good, interesting and excellent hosts.”
MedCruise President Theodora Riga highlighted the role of the event, saying: “Our General Assemblies are milestones shaping the future of Mediterranean cruising. We are delighted to bring our members and partners to Šibenik, a city that beautifully reflects the heritage, innovation and hospitality that define our regions.”

Šibenik-Knin County Prefect Paško Rakić emphasised the importance of collaboration, stating: “It is very important that we create synergy between cruise guests, tourism, and the local population. Islanders and residents must feel included and we must build trust between cruise tourism and local needs.”
Mayor of Šibenik Željko Burić added: “Šibenik is truly the right place for this General Assembly – the oldest native Croatian town on the eastern Adriatic, with two national parks in its territory and more within a short drive.”
Croatia’s Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, concluded: “Šibenik deserves this event, not only because of its natural advantages but also because of the remarkable development of the city in recent years. It is stronger, better, and more successful. Croatia is ready to be a leader of sustainable cruise industry development in the Mediterranean – not only growth in numbers, but responsible, long-term development that benefits local communities, passengers, and partners.”

Over the next few days, 472 B2B meetings will take place between MedCruise members and 28 executives representing 24 cruise lines, fostering fresh partnerships and deeper collaboration. A total of 214 participants will also join high-level panels and interactive workshops addressing key themes such as sustainability, digitalisation and shifting passenger expectations—ensuring that conversations remain both practical and forward-looking.
The agenda also features dedicated MedCruise Working Group sessions, the Internal Matters meeting focusing on governance and the Association’s long-term direction, and a gathering of the Board of Directors.
Beyond the formal programme the Assembly will showcase Šibenik’s cultural and natural treasures—from the UNESCO-listed old town to the landscapes of Krka National Park—demonstrating the essential role of local communities in shaping authentic cruise tourism experiences. Delegates will also enjoy a rich social programme, including a Welcome Reception at the St. Michael’s Fortress, a Gala Dinner and a Farewell Dinner at the Dalmatian Ethno Village infused with Croatian traditions.
With its combination of strategic discussions, business networking, and cultural exchange, the 67th MedCruise General Assembly marks a significant milestone in advancing the Mediterranean’s position as the world’s leading cruise destination.
